06:00 am Pick up from the Hotel to begin our 4-hour trip to the town of Cachora (2,800 m) where we will stop to take a break and buy some things we need for our adventure, later we will return to our bus to continue our trip for 30 minutes to Capuliyoc 2850 m. the beginning of our walk.
Next, we will see the mountain range of the area, the Apurímac Canyon and the Apurímac River. This river is mighty. It passes through all the Andes mountains until it reaches the Ocean. We will also see Choquequirao at a great distance.
We begin our descent to the small community of Chiquisca 1930 m where we will have our first lunch about 4 hours of walking, after our lunch we will continue our adventure to our camp.
After breakfast we will continue with our walk towards Choquequirao, 3030 meters above sea level. We will cross to the other side of the Apurímac River by a suspension bridge, then comes the most difficult part of our trek, we will ascend a winding path where we will be able to appreciate some types of orchids and local fauna, The road will take us to our lunch point at Marampata 2918 m. a small community at the top of the mountain. Desde Maranpata we can see Choquequirao in the distance and the camp site very cerrar to the archaeological center.
Later, after our fortifying lunch and our rest, we will continue our walk along a path between small ups and downs for about 1 hour to the camp. If you still have energy, we can visit the surroundings of the archaeological center of Choquequirao.
After breakfast. We will begin by getting to know CHOQUEQUIRAO, a light walk of approximately 30 minutes. to the main square of the last place of refuge of the Incas: Choquequirao or «Cuna de Oro» (3030 m.) where you will have an explanation from the guide.
Choquequirao is designed with 9 zones. These areas were built like small cities surrounding a plaza.
The following areas have been identified: the upper areas (Hanan), the storage areas (QOLQA), Plaza de Armas (Huacaypata), the lower square (Hurin), the terrace system where the crops used for cultivation (Shaqra Anden ), the ceremonial platform (Ushnu) and the priests’ houses at the bottom of the hill. Due to all these findings, it is presumed that Choquequirao was a great political and economic center that has been used as a center of trade and cultural exchange between the coast, the mountains and the jungle. It should be noted that Choquequirao is also known as “the sacred sister of Machu Picchu, due to the similarities in design and architectural structure.
After this interesting visit and exploration of Choquequirao, we will return to Maranpata (2918 m) where we will have lunch. Afterwards, we will descend to the Apurímac River and cross the suspension bridge to the Rosalina beach area (1,590 m) and immediately after we will continue our ascent to Chiquisca 1,930 m. Here we are going to have dinner and spend the night.
Early in the morning, after breakfast in Chiquisca (1,930 m) around 8:00 am approx. We will be ascending towards Capuliyoc (2850 m.) which will take approximately 4 hours. Where we will have our last lunch and the transportation will be waiting to take us to Cusco and finish your great adventure.
