06:00 am Pick up from the hotel to start our 4 hour trip to the town of Cachora (2800 m) where we will stop to take a break and buy some things we need for our adventure, then return to our bus to continue our journey for 30 minutes to Capuliyoc 2850 m. the beginning of our hike.
Then we will see the mountain range of the area, the Apurimac Canyon and the Apurimac River. This river is powerful. It crosses all the mountains of the Andes until it reaches the ocean. We will also see Choquequirao in the distance.
We begin our descent to the small community of Chiquisca 1930 m where we will have our first lunch approximately 4 hours of walking, after our lunch we will continue our adventure to our campsite.
After breakfast we will continue our trek to Choquequirao, 3030 meters above sea level. We will cross to the other side of the Apurimac River by a suspension bridge, then comes the most difficult part of our hike, we will ascend by a winding road where we can appreciate some types of orchids and local fauna, The road will take us to our lunch point in Marampata 2918 m. a small community on top of the mountain. From Maranpata we can see Choquequirao in the distance and the camp very close to the archaeological center.
After our fortifying lunch and rest, we will continue our hike on a trail between small ups and downs for about 1 hour to the camp. If you still have energy, we can visit the surroundings of the archaeological center of Choquequirao.
After breakfast. We will start knowing CHOQUEQUIRAO, a light walk of approximately 30 minutes to the main square of the last place of refuge of the Incas: Choquequirao or “Cradle of Gold” (3030 m.) where you will have an explanation of the guide.
Choquequirao is designed with 9 zones. These zones were built as small cities surrounding a square.
The following zones have been identified: the upper areas (Hanan), the storage areas (QOLQA), the Plaza de Armas (Huacaypata), the lower plaza (Hurin), the system of terraces where the crops used for cultivation (Shaqra Anden), the ceremonial platform (Ushnu) and the houses of the priests at the bottom of the hill. Due to all these findings, it is presumed that Choquequirao was a great political and economic center that has been used as a center of trade and cultural exchange between the coast, highlands and jungle. It should be noted that Choquequirao is also known as “the sacred sister of Machu Picchu, due to the similarities in design and architectural structure.
After this interesting visit and exploration of Choquequirao, we will return to Maranpata (2918 m) where we will have lunch. Then we will descend to the Apurimac River and cross the suspension bridge to the Rosalina beach area (1,590 m) and immediately after we will continue our ascent to Chiquisca (1,930 m). Here we will have dinner and spend the night.
Early in the morning, after breakfast in Chiquisca (1,930 m.) around 8:00 am approx. we will be ascending to Capuliyoc (2850 m.) which will take us approximately 4 hours. Where we will have our last lunch and the transportation will be waiting for us to take us to Cusco and finish your great adventure.
